Orange and Nest
Materials: Clay, plaster, acrylic paint, nails, wood
Year: 2023
A “tamed” orange, larger than life, rests in a nest that holds and protects it. My inspiration comes from "The Little Prince." Some interpret the story as showing how the sacrifices of others protect one's innocence. However, the story also suggests that protection isn't always what's best for loved ones, as demonstrated by the Little Prince and the Rose. Over-protection is a common issue in many close relationships. For example, similar to the analogy of the eagle teaching its young to fly by pushing them out of the nest, protection must be balanced with the freedom to face challenges and grow. This artwork is meant to remind us of that.
